Five Minutes, Twenty Slides: What Would YOU Say?
Ignite Austin brought together an inspiring and unexpected blend of thinkers from business, art, technology, government and academia. All with ideas. And all willing to share them. The goal was to spark new conversations and collaborations across cultures and disciplines. See the website by clicking here. The first Ignite Austin was held on Wednesday, January 14, 2010 at the Phoenix lounge in downtown Austin. The joint was packed. It was a great show! Here are just a few of the great pictures I caught of the evening.

Wide shot of the room. Big crowd!

Whurley (left) and Josh Baer (right) were sort of emcee's for the evening.

Matt Manroe's cool jacket.

Trey Ratcliff talked about HDR photography.

Jon Lebkowsky talked about the future of social networks.

Bijoy Goswami presented his view of Austin.

Audience approval.

Whurley opened up about open source.

Waiting for the meeting of Austin Photography Group, I had the opportunity to thumb through a few thousand books. Great fun!

Impromptu Portraits: Urban Fishing

I bet there aren't too many cities in the USA where you can catch a five-pound large-mouth bass... right downtown! Steve Garcia reeled in a beauty as I walked along the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Luckily, my camera was ready for it.

One of several burger outlets operated by Austin's Hamburger King, Dan Junk, whose trademark has always been good, fresh food and friendly service. This is no-frills, standard (but delicious) burger and fries territory.

Impromptu Portraits: Dapper Dan Dash/Shannon Tweed Ride

(click any image to view larger)

The Peddler Bike Shop (Austin, Texas) cooked up this cool ride for mid January. Everyone was expected to wear tweed and knickers (at least make an attempt at it) for this jaunty bike ride around town ending back at the shop for tea and scones. I met up with them when the group took a rest on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge (Pfluger Bridge). Glad I had my camera! What a hoot!

Took part in the annual New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge at Barton Springs Pool. The outside temperature was about 50 degrees F, while the water temperature was the usual 68 degrees F. Brrrr!
