After watching the bats swarm out of Congress Avenue Bridge last night, I walked around looking at the downtown lights at night. Austin is a really pretty downtown area, especially if you've got the right angle. I asked an unsuspecting young couple to help me with a picture I wanted to get and asked them to sit motionlessly for a second on a railing. With the colorful wall of the Raddison Hotel in the background, I got this shot with a long exposure, aperture of f/6.3 and my handy SB800 flash with Lightsphere diffuser. I love the light tracer from the bus in the background!

Portfolio Building: Tiffaney

I had the opportunity to shoot with Tiffaney again. This time we chose to shoot outside and I suggested a few industrial sites that could lend an interesting background. Below are three of my favorite portraits from the session.

Studio Portraits: Nick The One-Year-Old Boy

Nick just had his first birthday last month, so his Mom and Dad brought him to the studio to have some nice pictures made. What a good boy he is! And handsome too!

Landscape: Texas State Capitol Building
(click any image to view website)
A tight image of the great dome of the Texas State Capitol Building in downtown Austin, Texas. In this view, the camera is located in the southwest corner of the Capitol grounds. There are a few details that I particularly like about this shot: the redbud tree blooming in the lower right corner, the flags fully opened by the breeze, the large depth of field that shows foreground and background all in focus, and of course the blue sky and white clouds framing the big dome.

Events: 82nd Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival

People on the ground, kites in the air.
The 82nd Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival was a HUGE success. After being postponed from the previous weekend due to rain, the crowds were massive! There was some wind and lots of sunshine; people filled the park and kites filled the air.

Volunteers: Park Cleanup Day
(click any image to view website)
"It’s My Park! Day" is an annual community service day focused on making improvements to Austin’s park system. On March 6, 2010, some 2,500 volunteers worked on projects led by individuals and community groups at 68 different parks! My son and I volunteered at Dick Nichols Park in the Oak Hill neighborhood in southwest Austin. We were among 50 volunteers who helped distribute mulch to the bases of trees and bushes, pick up litter, clean playscapes and paint signs, benches and tables. Great job, people! Here are a few snapshots of volunteers at work!
